This podcast is your go-to for all things career growth! You’ll learn productivity systems to help you get organized, plan ahead, and accomplish your work efficiently. You’ll increase your ability to anticipate problems at work and inside your team before they occur and increase your confidence to lead through them. Goodbye burnout, hello confident, proactive leadership! Hey, I’m Kayla Fahey-Ahrndt, MPH, MLS(ASCP)SBB…but you can call me KFA! I’ve got 12+ years of professional healthcare leadership experience, and I have 9+ years of management experience. I’m a mama of 3 littles, wife and best friend to my hubby who is also in healthcare, and coffee and planner obsessed. When I first stepped into my first professional leadership role, I was promoted quickly! At the time, I was a new mama and had way less experience than those I was leading. I knew I needed to learn and grow in order to succeed in my role. I lacked work-life balance and had no boundaries. I experienced burnout quickly by trying to people please and do everything myself. I worked long hours and my relationships suffered as a result. I finally realized that I needed simple, effective strategies to help me get organized and manage my competing priorities. I created my own daily management tool which helped me get organized, manage stress, achieve work-life integration. I quickly became the go-to leader for innovative healthcare leadership, and I was promoted again! If you are ready to implement sustainable systems and strategies to help you get organized, ditch the burnout, and finally get the recognition you deserve, grab your coffee or bubbly and press play on my show while you rock your spreadsheets! It’s time to dive in!

+Get the free Recognition Worksheet in my Free Resource Library
Why is employee recognition important? There are many benefits to employee recognition when it's done intentionally.
+ I ask each of my employees "How do you like to be recognized?"
There are many ways to ask this question, but I feel it's the most straight forward way.
+ To honor the preferences of my employees, I give them examples of various recognition types. The free Recognition Worksheet I provided at the top of the description has so really great ideas. Of course, this isn't an exhaustive list.
I find that when I begin to look for behaviors that I can recognize, I find more gratitude in my work and working with those team members.
Gratitude - I find that when I begin to look for behaviors that I can recognize, I find more gratitude in my work and working with those team members.
When leaders spend time recognizing our employees at work, they feel appreciated and see that their work matters. They feel engaged and are less likely to turnover.
Here's a great white paper prepared by the Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkley that talks all about gratitude and it’s benefits: https://ggsc.berkeley.edu/images/uploads/GGSC-JTF_White_Paper-Gratitude-FINAL.pdf
Tailor your recognition and be specific -
Once you know how your employee appreciates being recognized, be sure to tailor your recognition using their preferences.
Recognize your employee as close to the achievement or behavior you observed as possible. Knowing that their leader notices, acknowledges, and appreciates their recent work feels good and reinforces the employee to perform that positive behavior again.
Make Time for Recognition -
Schedule time on your calendar each day or once a week, whatever cadence works for you, for employee recognition.

In today's episode I give some perspective into how to handle critics and well intentioned folks who want to nit pick your work. Whose opinion matters? The people who are in your arena! I hope this episode is inspirational to you and gives you a new way to deal with and think about opinions that come your way.

Get the free Coaching Dialogue Questions and Tips Workaid Here
As a leader, our direct reports, our peers, and even our bosses come to us advice or help with problem solving. In this video, I provide tips for hosting a coaching conversation or coaching dialogue that allows you to help others grow. In this video, I give you questions to ask that help others reflect on the issue at hand and determine what they can do to work through their own ideas to find solutions.
Create space for learning: Keep your conversation a judgement free zone. Refrain from assuming you know the "why" behind their reasoning or that you have the answer. Say less, Listen more.
Give less advice: Avoid offering advice in the form of a "why" question. Instead of "Why did you make that decision?" ask one of the "What..." questions.
Be okay with silence: People need time to think when you ask "What..." questions. Let the person think or even come back later with their reflection instead of offering the answer or posing a leading question or thought based on your perspective.
Ask "What Questions."
WHAT...
is on your mind?
were you hoping for?
were you trying to achieve?
else can you do?
is the real issue?
would it look like?
Reflect Back:
"I heard..." or "Here's what I heard you say..."

In today's episode, I decided to come onto today's episode and show up as authentically and vulnerable as possible...because why? Real life.
Leadership isn't always about looking polished and being "on." It's about sharing the reality of our work and being honest about our behind the scenes.
I also go into how I'm feeling so grateful right now during a very busy time because in the past, I likely would have been feelin less than grateful and more like resentful. I share how I got there over time and how this shift has been so imperative for making me a better leader.
I hope you will enjoy this non-traditional, shook up podcast episode with the real me.

In today's episode, I'm sharing the Instagram meme I keep seeing that is making me cringe! I need to speak out about this topic, which may seem controversial to some, but to me this topic is at the core of why we're all burnt out. We need to flip the script and challenge our societal norms...this is not the way it should be.

Effective communication is one of the THE most important things a leader can do. Most folks aren’t intentional about the information they share and their teams end up confused, with more questions, or with the wrong idea. Great leaders are thoughtful and plan their communication.
In this video, I walk you through my template for successful, effective communication. We review everything from the communication topic and the goal we strive to achieve by communicating to your audience and the benefit your audience will gain from whatever you’re communicating. We’ll also dive into what to include to ensure your communication is proactive and how to get your audience to act based on the information you share.
Every leader needs my Communication Plan Template in their toolkit. Don’t forget to snag it and put it into action!
Let me know what new projects or changes you’re looking to communicate with your teams or people by sending me a message on Instagram @KaylaFaheyAhrndt. I’d love to hear more and coach you through the different aspects of your communication plan.

Do you trust yourself?
Confidence is something we all must work to cultivate every day.
Confidence is that feeling of self-assurance that tells us “You got this!” or “You can do this!”
And yet, it can feel fleeting once you notice that little speck of self-doubt hanging out in the corner whispering and then growing louder, “That’s a silly idea.” Or “I don’t want to sound like I don’t know what I’m talking about. Better not mention anything.”
When I polled my Instagram community members on my stories on Friday (thx for participating!) one of the most voted for topics they’d like to hear from me about is “How to Have Confidence at Work.”
So this Glow Getters Podcast episode is going to be all about how to cultivate confidence in the workplace (and elsewhere!).
I share daily practices and quick ways to pump yourself up AND more long term strategies for building that confidence muscle.
😜And I get a little weird and share some of my fun side with you. I need help finding a cut out of a certain F•R•I•E•N•D•S character...listen 🎧 to find out who and why... 😂
After this episode, you’ll be more prepared to show up fully as you and trust your amazing self!
I cannot wait for you to listen!
✨I’d love to know…
❓…In what situations do you find it hardest to show up confidently to? (meetings, 1:1’s, email, etc.) Maybe who makes you feel less confident? (colleagues, boss, etc.) Message me on Instagram @KaylaFaheyAhrndt.
For me, it’s always been people who I think may be judging me for standing out…like my colleague peer group.
